Places to Stay:
Gerringong is about 130km’s South of Sydney and has a concrete boat ramp and fish cleaning facility. It has a vast range of fishing including reef fishing, beach fishing and game fishing.
The boat ramp offer’s easy access into a small harbour where you’ll often be able
to get fresh squid. Just behind a small bommie just off the point, you can pick
up live yakkas, slimmey mackeral or you can try for some snapper, morwong, salmon,
or when the water warms up, bonito, rat kingfish, the odd Tuna and plenty of sharks
in the warmer months. Fishing from the rocks will also produce most of the fish
just listed.
There’s plenty of reefs between Werri beach and Gerroa which also produce
good catches of reef fish including some good size snapper.
There’s undercover seats and a large grass area to leave the family for a few hours while you go fishing. When you get back you can cook up your fresh fish on the BBQ which is cleaned almost every day by Kiama Council. There are also toilets and a salt water swimming pool to take the kids for a swim.

Gerringong boat ramp: Bottom of Jupitor St Gerringong. Fish Cleaning, concrete ramp, Toilets, BBQ, picnic area, salt water pool. Shops 600 metres up the road. Ramp can surge on high tide with a bit of swell.
Gerroa ramp is a beach launch in the Northern end of Seven mile beach. It’s well
protected in Northerly winds but can pick up swells from the South. The beach is
usually safe for kids to swim and there are toilets about 300m away as well as a
fish and chip shop. Fishing off the point (Black Head) produces good catches of
Salmon, bonito, Kingfish (usually rats) as well as black drummer, mowong, tailor
and plenty of sharks early morning, evening and night time.
Last year a guy even speared
a 154kg black Marlin from within 100m of the point. There are also some good snapper
spots over nearby reefs.
Seven Mile beach offer’s some great fishing too with plenty
of Tailor, salmon, bream, whiting and jewfish caught.
Around the crooked river mouth
is good if you like whiting.
If your into game fishing, this area produces a lot of Hammerhead Sharks as well as Whaler’s and the odd Bull shark. The Hammer heads seem to be in fairly close to shore (with in 3km) and the Whalers and larger sharks out wider over the bait grounds off kiama (about 7 km’s off shore. I’ve hooked three Marlin in this area over the past couple of years, all were lost.
