KAYAK GAME FISHING

If you’re only new to kayaking and thinking about buying a kayak it can be very overwhelming when choosing your first kayak.   There are heaps of different brands and within each brand there’s all different types of kayaks.
To review every kayak on the market would be impossible for me so I will only be reviewing the Kayaks I use which is Ocean Kayaks.  They are the number 1 selling sit on kayak in the world. They make all different types of kayaks for different purposes.   I’m fortunate enough to get different kayaks to try and review.  I have tested out four kayaks in there range so far and will write about each one, as well as uploaded footage from each kayak showing there capabilities.

Scrambler 11:

This is a great all rounder kayak suitable for just about everything.
The new Scrambler 11 is extremely stable and maneuverable. This kayak is the perfect choice for the paddler who may want to surf a little, fish a little or just cruise around.
The new hull design makes this very fast for it’s length as well as very stable.
It’s the best all rounder kayak on the market for under $1000.00.  It comes with a seat, paddle, bungie straps, tow strong cary handles, two rod holders and a small hatch.
The beauty of this kayak is you can add to it if you get more serious about fishing.
There’s a recess already for a transducer for a fish finder,  you can add a large front hatch and it has srew threads ready for a running rig to add a ancor or sea anchor.
It comes in a range of colours and is suitable for the whole family.
You can get cheaper kayaks but none will match this one for speed, quality and versatility.

Prowler Ultra 4.7

Exceptional stability is provided due to a generous 74 centimetre wide hull and a huge weight carrying capacity of over 250 kilograms. In addition, the efficient 4.7 meter design provides approximately 15% more hull speed than the already fast paddling Prowler Elite 4.5 making covering longer distances quicker.

The Prowler Ultra 4.7 comes standard with fitted rudder, deluxe seat, four flush mount rod holders, brass inserts to suit Cannon rod holders, live-bait and storage well plus extra-long rear well for storing your gear or catch. Additional features include transducer scupper, paddle holders, tackle box holders, drink bottle, integrated solid carry handles, wear skeg, deck bungie storage area and crosslink front hatch with neoprene under-cover.

One of the outstanding innovations is a waterproof centre hatch with flip-lid which is ideal for keeping gear dry during surf launches and re-entries. The flip-lid is designed to allow the mounting of a range of accessories, including a Humminbird fish finder, gaffs, knives and pliers with all items remaining protected on the underside of the flip-lid until you have cleared the surf line. Once in clear water the rubber tie downs can be removed and the whole lid flipped over revealing your fish finder and accessories ready for use.

The Prowler Ultra 4.7 has a wide range of optional extras available including a rod tube kit designed to be fitted inside the centre hatch under the flip-lid allowing rods and reels to remain dry. This feature is capable of storing two average sized rod and reel combo’s, or additional rods if reels are not attached. The live-bait tank fit-kit, situated directly behind the paddler, utilises a simple and effective manual pumping system for filling and aeration while allowing easy access when required.

An optional clip-in fully insulated icebox with hinged lid and carry handle or an insulated soft cover are available for the large 1.1 metre rear well. Other options include a running anchor rig and a side imaging transducer mounting kit.

Torque:

The Torque is unlike any kayak you have seen on the market. The Torque features a Minn Kota trolling motor. Infinitely variable speed control allows you to hit the perfect pace for trolling. And if that wasn't enough, this quiet motor also has reverse capability to allow you to easily maneuver in and out of tight spots. Not in the mood to motor around? Not to worry. The motor can easily be removed for transport or swapped out with a skeg plug. The Torque takes kayak fishing to the next level and is suitable of estuary’s or outside fishing.
